Cantus to Perform Selections from "A Sound Like This" at Lincoln Center

Edie Hill is thrilled to announce that Cantus will be performing selections from A Sound Like This at Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival in New York this coming November 2nd at 11:00am! A Sound LIke This was commissioned by Cantus in 2006 under the auspices of a Chamber Music America Commissioning Grant.

'Cancion de el Alma: en una noche escura' was commissioned by Classical Minnesota Public Radio for the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Takach Transitions to Full-Time Composing Career

Timothy C. Takach joined the vocal ensemble Cantus at St. Olaf College in the fall of 1996, and completes his 17th season singing bass with the ensemble in the summer of 2013. During his tenure with Cantus, Takach was instrumental in the evolution of the group from collegiate ensemble to vibrant professional non-profit organization, recording 18 CDs, and helping to define the ensemble's prominence as the “premiere men's vocal ensemble in the United States” (Fanfare).

Jocelyn Hagen attends Texas Choral Directors Association annual conference for premiere of new work, "Verspertilians."

Jocelyn Hagen will be attending the 2013 TCDA conference on July 22 to hear the premiere of her new work, "Vespertilians," sung by Cantare Houston. The piece was commissioned by TCDA for the conference. The text, taken from Ovid's masterwork poem, "Metamorphoses," describes three women and their transformation into bats.

MUSE to premiere new works by Abbie Betinis & Elizabeth Alexander

MUSE, Cincinnati’s Women’s Choir will premiere newly-commissioned pieces by Abbie Betinis and Elizabeth Alexander on their 30th Anniversary concerts June 8th & 9th, 2013. The concerts are the final performances under founding Artistic Director Catherine Roma before her retirement.

Jocelyn Hagen wins Young New Yorkers' Chorus 2013 Competition for Young Composers!

Since 2005, the Young New Yorkers' Chorus has commissioned more than twenty new works and awarded over $18,000 to young (under age 35) composer finalists. On March 9, 2013, the winner of the Ninth Competition, Jocelyn Hagen, was awarded this honor for her piece "Trees Need Not Walk the Earth," for SATB choir, piano, marimba and rainstick. Notre Dame Glee Club to premiere new work by Timothy C. Takach

DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on the campus of Notre Dame, commissioned Timothy C. Takach to write a new piece for double male chorus. The piece is a setting of the Salve Regina, and is set for TBB semi-chorus and TTBB chorus. The premiere will take place on February 17 at Notre Dame during Cantus concert (appearing on the DeBartolo series). Cantus will sing the semi-chorus and the Notre Dame Glee Club will sing the full chorus.
