My Lord, What a Morning

SSAA a cappella

Written to honor the 30th anniversary of MUSE, Cincinnati's Women's Choir, with whom I have enjoyed a fruitful and inspiring relationship for nearly 25 years. This is retiring founder/music director Cathy Roma's very favorite spiritual, and is dedicated to her remarkable energy and vision. Here is what she says about it:

“My Lord What a Morning” resounds deep in my soul. It is one of my earliest memories of a spiritual that transcended time and space and shook me to the core. Its beauty, light and joy for a new day reassures us that hope is here and beyond the stars that fall."

My Lord, what a morning,
my Lord, what a morning,
Oh, my Lord, what a morning,
when the stars begin to fall.

Vs. 1
You'll hear the trumpet sound
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand
when the stars begin to fall.

Vs. 2
You'll hear my sisters shout
'cause there's a new day come about...
